PROVIDENCE, R.I. â WJAR reports that the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced increased fees for parking and camping at the state’s parks and beaches. For non-residents, campsites will range from $60 for Tier One (full hookup sites) to $20 to $36 for sites with no utilities. For residents, the range is $30 to $18. Beach parking fees will increase as well, with residents paying $8 (weekday) to $9 (weekend). Non-residents will be charged $16 to $18 per day. The funds will be used to improve visitor experience by having cleaner facilities and bathrooms, as well as better maintained stairs and boardwalks.
A recent state-commissioned study found that Rhode Island ranks No. 1 nationally for visitors per acre to its state parks and beaches, but 47th nationally in state investment in the system. State facilities receive over 9 million visits per year, adding an estimated $315 million to the economy, generating nearly $40 million in state and local taxes and supporting nearly 4,000 jobs.
Details of the new fee schedule can be found on the WJAR website. Explore what the state has to offer on the Rhode Island Parks website.
