Oregon Celebrates 'State Parks Day' June 2

KTVZ, serving Central Oregon, reports that State Parks Day on June 2 will include free camping, free parking and a variety of free events, plus free fishing across the state June 2 and 3. Camping is FREE the night of June 2 in full hookup, electric hookup and tent sites. Parking at the 26 parks that charge a day-use fee is FREE June 2 and June 3, as well, according to a notice from Oregon State Parks. Nineteen parks and state recreation areas will host special events, ranging from pancake breakfasts and cookouts to special guided hikes, concerts, and kayak excursions. The new Sitka Sedge State Natural Area on the Oregon coast will hold its grand opening as part of State Parks Day. A full list of special events and participating parks can be found here. Oregon State Parks operates more than 50 campgrounds across the state. Twenty-eight accept reservations year-round. The others are first-come, first-served. To guarantee a site on State Parks Day at those that do accept reservations, call 1-800-452-5687 or reserve online at Oregon State Parks. A reservation fee of $8 will be charged, even if the site itself is free.
