Cape Breton Post Reports On Outdoor Destinations Being Frequented More Than Usual On This Island In Nova Scotia, Especially CBH National Park
Nearly all Parks Canada sites have experience an increase in visitors this year as people take the the outdoors for fun and recreation. A large credit to the increase can b attributed to free admission enacted because of Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Visits to the Fortress of Louisbourg, Cape Breton Highlands (CBH) National Park and Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site increased by 136,677, says Parks Canada visitor experience manager Eddie Kennedy.
Cape Breton Post quotes Kennedy: "Canada 150 was a big year for us because it was a chance to open up the doors for everyone to come in free and get a good experience of what we do." More people also flocked to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which features nearly 950 square kilometres of beaches, lakes, mountains, valleys and forests between Ingonish and Cheticamp. Kennedy said visitation rose from 278,467 in 2016 to 303,979 to in 2017 — a nine percent increase — while camping increased by 23 percent and oTENTiks rentals (a relatively new accommodation consisting of a cross between a tent and a rustic cabin) rose nearly 28 percent.
