The Gazette's Cassie Heeke Reports On Colorado Nonprofit, Peace Of Adventure, That Gives Veterans Sense Of Purpose
Peace of Adventure is a nonprofit in Colorado whose mission is to make veterans feel a sense of belonging while they get the chance to help disabled individuals on great outdoor adventures. One of the founders, Erin Dreis, is a veteran herself. She explains in the article how many of her former team members started to commit suicide and how difficult it was to feel a sense of purpose again in a world where no one understood how she felt. "I isolated myself, desperately wanted to deploy again in hopes that I could feel like I belonged and that I was understood," Dreis said. "I felt like my life was slipping through my fingers."
Thanks to Peace of Adventure, many veterans have once again felt like they were needed and understood that they truly are needed. "It puts us back in the game of the military again - thinking one step ahead," Adkins said.
