The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), Onondaga County Parks, and Friends of Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery will conduct a free Family Fishing Clinic on Saturday, June 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery, located on County Route 321 in Elbridge, Onondaga County. The DEC staff will present four, 15-minute instructional sessions on the topics of fish identification, fishing equipment and technique, aquatic invertebrates, and how to cook and clean fish. The seminars are followed by casting practice and fishing in a trout pond.
The event is free, and no fishing license is required to fish during the program. Fishing rods, tackle, bait and educational materials will be provided. The event is catch and release only. Children under age 16 must be supervised. This is one of several DEC-sponsored free fishing clinics where possession of a fishing license is not required. Additionally June 23-24, September 22 and November 11 this year have been designated free fishing days throughout the state of New York. See a full list of Free Fishing Clinics on DEC's website.
