RUIDOSO, N.M. - The Ruidoso News reports that community officials will approve a new campground to be built on the shores of Grindstone Lake, the main water supply reservoir for the village, also a popular spot for fishing, boating, bird watching and swimming. The project will include 22 tent campsites and six sites for RVs up to 15-feet in length, as well as picnic tables, showers, restrooms and parking. Trails for hiking or mountain biking already circle the lake and connect with trails in the Lincoln National Forest.
The nearly $300,000 project is anticipated to be completed in 150 days, weather permitting. “We are very excited to see this project underway,” Parks Director Rodney Griego told the paper. “Having campsites at Grindstone Lake will add another dimension to this already amazing recreational area.” An opening date in early June is planned.
