RAPID CITY, S.D.– The new nonprofit All Kids Bike campaign aims at teaching every child in America how to ride a two-wheel bicycle by providing free bikes and a training curriculum to kindergarten classes across the country. Funded by a coalition of parents, educators, health care providers, businesses, nonprofits and members of the general public, the program requires no out-of-pocket expenditures by participating schools. All Kids Bike (as well as its companion Adopt-A-School Program) is a partnership between each school’s community and the nonprofit Strider Education Foundation, which will provide an unlimited dollar-for-dollar matching grant to every school enrolled in All Kids Bike.
The benefits of biking, especially for children, are well documented, leading to greater health and sharper minds, greater self-confidence and love of the outdoors. Ryan McFarland, the entrepreneur behind the All Kids Bike movement, said in a press release: “Bicycling is much more than a simple recreational activity for children. It’s a proven, lifelong game changer. Together, we have the power to chart a better, healthier course for our children’s future. It’s as simple as riding a bike.”
