Michigan Attorney General Warns Outdoor Adventures To Cease Unfair Business Practices
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through the Morning Sun's website.
The Morning Sun, a Michigan news outlet, reports that Outdoor Adventures, a Bay City company that operates membership-based resorts, has received a letter from the state Attorney General ordering it to “immediately cease and desist from engaging in unlawful business practices” including the use of "aggressive and misleading" tactics to sell memberships, in violation of the state’s Consumer Protection Laws. The letter states that the Attorney General’s office has received nearly 30 complaints against Outdoor Adventures since 2016, including 10 this year, and that the Better Business Bureau has received additional complaints.
The family-owned Outdoor Adventures, founded in 1995, operates eight resorts, including Mt. Pleasant, Davison, Grand Haven, Kalamazoo, Omer, Standish, Sterling and West Branch, in Michigan plus one in Wapakoneta, Ohio. The Attorney General’s letter says that the state is preparing for a lawsuit, but that the company can avoid legal action by agreeing to voluntarily comply with the state’s demands, including putting in place a mechanism to ensure appropriate reimbursements to all customers affected by the company’s unfair trade practices.
