Steinbach Online, a news outlet in Manitoba, Canada, reports that the Mennonite Heritage Village, a local attraction, floated the idea to build a campground for visitors to the Steinbach City Council. The city asked Gary Dyck, director of the village, to return with a rough concept plan for discussion at its November meeting.
Dyck said the idea came to him after several potential visitors said they decided not to come because there was no campground. "I know people, even just from MacGregor, not that far away, they decided not to come to Steinbach because there was no campground right in the Steinbach area,” Dyck told the council. “They wanted to spend at least a couple of days doing things and without a campground, they didn't come."
