News Release:
March 30 Marks Opening Of Cape Hatteras Campgrounds
NPS Reports On The Upcoming Opening Of Four Cape Hatteras National Seashore Area Campgrounds In North Carolina That Will Remain Open Until The End of Camping Season In Fall.
The four campgrounds at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, located at Oregon Inlet, Cape Point, Frisco, and Ocracoke, will open for the season on Friday, March 30. The North Carolina campgrounds will remain open daily through November 26, the end of the camping season on the Outer Banks. Camping within Cape Hatteras National Seashore is permitted only in designated campgrounds, with camping on beaches prohibited. The Cape Hatteras campgrounds accommodate tents, trailers and motor-homes up to 35 feet. The campgrounds provide modern restrooms, potable water, unheated showers, grills and picnic tables, but hookups are not available. Rates range from $20 per night at Cape Point Campground to $28 per night at the three other facilities.
Group camping is available at Oregon Inlet Campground at a campsite accommodating 7-30 people, including infants and toddlers. Due to the popularity of the group camping site, the park service recommends reservations be made at least two weeks in advance. All four campgrounds now accept advance reservations, which can be made online at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Reservations are accepted up to 6 months in advance. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, camping in the National Seashore is limited to a total of 14 days within a 30-day period.
