Long a trend in Europe and many Asian markets, the indoor snow dome will make its debut in North America in March 2019. As reported by Transworld Snowboarding, Big Snow America in East Rutherford, NJ, will feature an 800 vertical-foot slope inside a 16-story building, with 180,000 square feet of terrain, a chairlift, terrain park, and both free riding and lesson areas, all stocked with man-made snow. Other features of the park include an ice climbing wall, an ice skating rink, and a chalet area with many dining and retail options.
The indoor facility caters to all abilities, although it is aimed at beginners in hopes of sparking an interest in snow sports. Organizers anticipate advanced skiers will use the slopes more in the off-season and warmer months. Construction of Big Snow America is already underway at the New Jersey location, as part of the extensive American Dream Meadowlands entertainment destination, which will offer 3 million square feet of entertainment, dining, and shopping for visitors, including water and amusement parks.
