Equity LifeStyle Properties Withdraws Plan For Arizona Project

The Red Rock News, an outlet covering the Sedona, AZ market, reports that Equity LifeStyle Properties (ELS) has dropped its application to build a new project just outside the Sedona city limits after the Yavapai County Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously not to support the application. County officials said they rejected the rezoning request due to the overwhelming number of negative comments from local residents, which cited traffic, lack of city services, character of the neighborhood, impact on the environment and view, age restrictions, density, fire concerns, flooding, lot size and decrease in neighboring property values among other objections. Sedona was recently voted most beautiful place in America by USA Weekend.
The proposed development for ages 55-and-up would have put 600 mobile home sites and 50 RV sites on land adjacent to the current ELS manufactured home community of Sedona Shadows. Under the current zoning, 89 total homes could be built on the land, site of the former El Rojo Grande Ranch. ELS owns and manages nearly 200 manufactured home communities and RV parks across the United States.
