Union Bulletin's Dian Ver Valen Reports On Care-A-Vanners Whose Mission Is To Build Homes For Low Income Families.
Members of the Habitat for Humanity group, Care-A-Vanners, travel around the U.S. to build affordable homes for low-income families. They recently made their way to Walla Walla, Washington, to offer their services. One of the members, Marsha Lumsden, said “We’re just people who like to combine travel with purpose. And it’s very easy. You just plan a trip, then go online and check the list of build sites and find ones along your travel route.”
Members come from different backgrounds and are usually retired. One great thing about Care-A-Vanners is that one doesn’t need to be experienced; they teach everything on the job. Moreover, Lumsden mentions that “You can decide what you want to learn to do. I had never used an electric saw or most of the other tools before, and I was nervous — but now I think it’s so much fun. Plus it’s great exercise.”
