ALBANY, NY-- Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced last week that more than $25 million in public/private resources to date have been committed to build the Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area, a signature project of the Governor's "Gateway to the Adirondacks" tourism hub. The new, accessible public campground with facilities for RV and tent campers, as well as equestrian campers, is located on the site of the former Frontier Town theme park in North Hudson, NY, at Exit 29 of the Northway, and is part of the state's Adventure NY initiative to enhance access to state lands and connect New Yorkers to nature and the outdoors.
"This development will create a unique, world-class campground for New Yorkers and visitors alike to enjoy," Governor Cuomo said in a press release. "This Gateway to the Adirondacks will serve as a central point for all of the area's recreations, significantly benefiting the local community and the region's tourism industry."
The Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area trails will connect to the existing trail network along NYS Route 9 and to the part of the Schroon Lake-North Hudson Snowmobile trail network known as the "Ti to Co Line Trail." National award-winning Paradox Brewery, founded in 2013 by former Army pilot Paul Mrocka, will build a new brewing facility, with a public tap room, on an 11.2-acre parcel of the Frontier Town property. The Day Use Area is expected to open in Fall 2018, and the Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian and Day Use Area is anticipated to open by Summer 2019.
