Two neighbors in Carolina have come together to restore their community's river that has been divided thanks to the many debris that has fallen into it after heavy rainfalls. This restoration took two months and has even revealed that it was home to the endangered hellbenders species.

As Blue Ridge Now writer Katie Onheiber relates in her article: The high riverbanks were excavated to reduce the bank height from 10 feet to about two-and-a-half feet. Willows and alders were planted. The most severe meander in the river fork was re-aligned to have a gentler curve. Root wads (dead tree trunks with their roots still intact) and tree limbs were buried along the toes of the banks.
