ROOSEVELT LAKE, Ariz. - Arizona News reports that a Roosevelt Lake campground is set to temporary close because of the fire danger and rising water levels. As Easter weekend ends, the area will be closed to campers as a precaution against wildfires, even with lake water lapping just feet away from the campsites.

According to Arizona News writer Spencer Blake, The fire danger is high at Roosevelt Lake because there’s so much water in it. Due to the Easter weekend, the Bermuda Flat Shoreline area was packed with campers and RVs. But as soon as the weekend ended, the area closed to campers as a precaution against the wildfires, even with lake water lapping just feet away from the campsite. “We always have a fire season; it’s just kind of where the fire season’s gonna be,” Tonto National Forest spokeswoman Carrie Templin was quoted in the article. Blake continues, "This year’s fire danger actually ties back to a wet winter, which has filled the lake to 75% capacity, as compared to about 50% in a normal year."
