"Still my favorite getaway"

Mammoth Ridge has always been one of my favorite spots, but I have to be honest: my April visit felt different. On the positive side, Mammoth Ridge still has so much going for it. The sunsets are beautiful, the water is awesome, the beach and the fishing remains great. The lake is still well-stocked with plenty of fish, and there is nothing like seeing the excitement of kids catching a fish for the first time. The night sky is also incredible; the stars are truly awesome. I always look forward to the summertime activities here, like the fishing tournaments and the car shows. Additionally, Jen and Darrin are wonderful owners they are very accommodating, friendly, and will truly do anything for you. I know they have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into building this place from scratch. However, the peaceful vibe I used to love has shifted. While it's early in the season and the empty swimming area and quiet fishing dock were expected, the vibe has changed. There seems to be a lot of occupied spots for long-term renters versus vacationers. We originally booked spot number 6 but were moved to spot number 2 to accommodate a monthly tenant. We did not mind at all, since there is not a bad view from any spot in this park, but I've noticed it is starting to feel more like a permanent residential area than a vacation retreat. It was a bit concerning to see the living conditions of some of the long-term residents; staying in old school buses or homemade RVs makes me worry about their safety and well-being, especially since those setups don't appear to be designed for permanent living. Not judging just concerned. It was also a bit difficult to find peace and quiet this time around due to some mechanical work happening nearby. A car was brought in on a car hauler for repairs to one of the renters spot, and the sound of the tools and the engine revving was fairly constant throughout the day. Despite this experience, this is still my favorite getaway. We haven't given up on this beautiful place. We will try again in the future, and I will keep you updated. I truly hope it finds its old charm again.
