Well we made it to Cabella's and to show our appreciation we went in and left a few dollars behind as we purchased Jim a fly fishing rod that was on sale for $128 marked down from $199. Walked the dogs around and then on the road for the border.
The drive to the border was beautiful, Montana is definitely a really pretty state and we were blessed with sunny skies most of the day. Even the storm was nice since it was short but left us a rainbow to chase. We just passed through Great Falls (our original destination) and are only an hour from Canada. We are hoping that we don't have to go through a full search as we are already hours behind schedule.
For those retired this would not be a problem but since we are still working so we can afford this lifestyle we have to make schedules to make money. We are scheduled to be in Homer Alaska on June 9th which is over 2300 miles from our current location.
About a mile before the border crossing we passed two foxes who had a den on the side of the highway, wish I had my camera out when we saw them as they were sitting right next to the road just as relaxed as could be. We arrived at the border at dinner time so stopped at the rest stop outside security to feed the dogs and ourselves in case we were there for a time.
Pulled up with seven cars in front of us and creeped forward. Finally got to the window, it was my turn to drive so I handed the agent our passports and asked him what else was needed. He looked at the three ring binder in my lap and smiled then asked us if we had liquour "yes, 80oz total", fruits or vegi's "none", weapons "yes, a rifle", and any ammunition "yes, about 100 rounds".
He directed us to park the RV and come into the office with our paperwork which we did. Went up to the counter and the agent asked us the same questions then took our passports and told us to take a seat. We went and sat down while he started typing on his computer. He then frowned, got up and went to another computer and started typing again. This went on for over 10 minutes and I won't lie, I started to get nervous.
I don't have a record of any kind and it has been years since my last speeding ticket but he was spending a very long time so I was beginning to wonder if there might be a mistake on mine or Jim's records. Finally he calls us back over and asks Jim if he forgot anything??? Jim gets a panicked look on his face and says he doesn’t think so. The agent laughs and says that he was joking and that everything was in order, he apologized that there computers were down so it took him a while to finish our check out.
We paid the $25 to bring the rifle across the border, stamped our passports and we were on our way. I found the agents to be friendly and welcoming, not what I was expecting after reading stories online.
Next stop Calgary to stock back up on fruits and vegi's.
