The Best Toys for RVing Families

If you’re RVing with kids, there’s a good chance you struggle with toys. Where to store them, how many to keep, and which ones are ideal are all things RVing parents wonder about.
As a fulltime RVing parent myself, I just want to say that I understand your struggle and I want to help. Therefore, I’ve compiled a list of the most popular toys for RVers.
Of course, you don't need to have all of these. In fact, I recommend choosing a few and calling it good. However, by sticking to this list, you can rest assured your kids will play with their things, their toys will be easy to store, and nothing will be taking up space without purpose.

Building Sets
LEGO is hugely popular in the world of RVing families, and for good reason. LEGO bricks are small, can be made into almost anything, and can then be played with once a structure is complete. Personally, I’ve watched a group of kids play with LEGO bricks for more than 3 hours on more than one occasion, something that I think speaks volumes for those products.
That said, LEGO isn’t your only option when it comes to building sets, and many sets do provide the same sort of amazing, open-ended play. For other choices, check out DUPLO, Magformers, Magna-Tiles, and K’Nex.
Play Silks
Whether your kid is playing dress-up or needing a blanket for their baby, play silks like these are an awesome solution. These simple bits of fabric provide hours of open-ended play, and can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. Additionally, these silks are super easy to store thanks to their flat and lightweight nature, making them a wonderful alternative to full-scale dress-up clothes.
Sand Toys
As you might imagine, RVing kiddos spend tons of time outside. Much of the time, this involves sand or mud play, and that means some sand toys are almost required for fulltime RVing families. We always have a bucket and shovel on hand, and have used it to build sandcastles at the beach, dig holes at the playground, and collect fossils at the river.
Water Toys
In the same vein as the sand toys, all RVing kids need to have at least a couple of water toys. We keep this pretty minimal and have only a snorkel and goggles. However, we do sometimes wish we had a swim ring and some squirt toys.
Bicycles
Hardly a day goes by that my son isn’t on his bicycle. In fact, his bike might just be his most-played-with toy. He uses it as a mode of transportation around campgrounds, but also as a way to challenge himself as he learns to ride on two wheels, fly down hills, navigate speed bumps, and ride hands-free.
Of course, my son isn't the only kid who loves his bike. Nearly every other RVing child we’ve come across has had a bike that they use on a daily basis, something that makes me think this might just be a must-have toy.

Playmobil
They’re small, detailed, and a great way to enhance imaginative play. Playmobil sets are wonderful toys for RVers. If your kid is into action figures, you might want to consider replacing them with the smaller and more durable Playmobil characters, as they will be much easier to store and collect, and their many accessories make them a more versatile option than traditional action figures.
Obviously, you will want to keep your kids’ most treasured toys. However, getting rid of the rest and adding a few of the items mentioned above should be plenty to keep your little travelers entertained during your adventures.
