Texas Destinations You Need To See

Texas Destinations You Need To See

12-21-2017

From historic architecture to beautiful beaches, Texas—the largest state in the continental 48—offers a lifetime of activities in one vast location. Divided into four geographical regions (Gulf Coastal Plains, Interior Lowlands, Great Plains, and Basin and Range) and as many as five cultural regions, there's something for everyone. The following cities are just part of what makes the Lone Star state so rich, as well as perfect for an RV road-trip.

Austin, TX

Built in 1888, Austin is the capital city of Texas and is perhaps known best for its world-class museums, many music festivals, and architecture. One of the tallest in the nation, the Texas Capitol building sits on 22-acres surrounded by historical monuments honoring defenders of the Alamo and veterans of the Vietnam War. Other nearby attractions include Zilker Metropolitan Park with its miniature train, hiking and biking trails, a multi-age playscape, and a large lake with canoes to rent.

With full accommodations at reasonably-priced parks like the Austin Lone Star RV Resort located downtown to more rustic options like McKinney Falls State Park, there's something for everyone.

Corpus Christi

Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Corpus Christie features bays, beaches, islands, and ports, so there are plenty for opportunities for water and wind sports. In fact, just a short drive south takes you to the largest undeveloped barrier island—70-mile long Padre Island. There, you can enjoy hundreds of thousands of acres of beaches, dunes, and wildlife habitats including those of rare sea turtles. For those who prefer less active pursuits, there are several cultural activities and exhibits like the USS Lexington—one of the largest ships to have survived WWII—to enjoy.

Waterfront camping is a must in Corpus Christie. Whether you stay on the mainland at Marina Village near the Naval Air Station or on one of the Beaches of Mustang Island, you'll get to enjoy all the area has to offer.

Dallas, TX

Purchasing a Dallas Citipass grants you access to some of the most important and enjoyable attractions in this historical city. The museum located in what was the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository from which President John F. Kennedy was shot provides many details of his campaign, presidency, and assassination. The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial stands nearby.

There are plenty of campgrounds and resorts for RVing in Dallas. Plantation Place RV Park is an upscale option a few miles from downtown. Sandy Lake RV Park is located across from an old-fashioned amusement park, and there are many other, more rustic ones to choose from, as well.

Houston, TX

The fourth tallest skyline in the country belongs to one of the most diverse cities in the country—Houston. One of the city's most popular destinations is NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and Mission Control from which many manned space flights have been monitored. Buy a Houston citipass to enjoy several of the attractions for one price.
Along with art galleries, museums, and theaters, there's a wide variety of restaurants.

As its name suggests, Houston Central RV Park is the closest to downtown, but there are many to choose from in the country's fourth-largest city.

San Antonio, TX

With a mix of Spanish and American cultures, the Tex-Mex and Mexican food is more authentic than almost anywhere else in the country. Along with its well-known cuisine, you can enjoy the historical architecture of the famous battle of the Alamo, the city’s cultural area, and the River Walk running through the center of San Antonio.

Gorgeous Greenlake RV Resort and River Walk RV Park, which is located downtown, are just two of the many luxury campgrounds in San Antonio. Even the KOA puts others to shame.

In Conclusion

Regardless of how long you plan to tour Texas, it's highly unlikely that you will have visited everything. Even longtime residents find something that surprises them when they travel the state. With the gulf coast, the marshy areas, and plentiful grasslands that are home to a variety of wildlife, its highly diverse. The cities are large and culturally rich, with plenty of space between them, just perfect for an RV road trip.

Initially, Carrie became a freelance writer, editor, and artist to support herself doing something she loves that also allows her to travel. Living in her Tourmaster coach, she has spent no more than five months in one place since October 2013. This ensures that she gets to experience the constantly changing scenery that accompanies the yearly seasonal changes, as well as meet new people across the country. She has since become a LuLaRoe Independent Fashion Consultant, as well to further this endeavor. In fact, Carrie considers herself fortunate, as most people have to be of retirement age to enjoy the sort of freedom she has, with every day bringing something different.
