RV Makeover Ideas

RV Makeover Ideas will refresh your space! Whether you’ve just found a fixer upper RV that is in need of a facelift or are wanting to change up your faithful rig with a remodel, there are many ways to go about an RV makeover. A few small changes can refresh and renew the space. A complete interior overhaul can give an entirely new feel and sense of comfort to your home on wheels. From the simple to the grand, there are numerous methods and ideas to give your RV the makeover it needs or simply the changes you want. Here are a few design and remodel notions to get you thinking about that big project for your motorhome.

Start from the Ground Up

One of the easiest makeover/remodel steps I have ever taken with an RV that provided an instant change in atmosphere is replacing or renovating the floor. Normal wear and tear usually dictates that a floor be replaced roughly every 5-8 years. If you plan on having your RV for a while, chances are you will be replacing the floor at some point. Carpet is the cheapest and often most common RV floor material but to really spruce up your rig, you should make a different choice for the remodel.

Vinyl plank flooring is growing in popularity and offers a fairly cheap and easy to install option. These vinyl planks will look like wood floor without the weight. Vinyl can expand and contract with temperature changes and road vibrations so though affordable, you might have to replace sooner than with another option.

Laminate flooring is another option that is popular. You can achieve a look of wood or tile with this option and laminate flooring is exceptionally scratch and water resistant. The downside to this type of flooring is again that it might not stand up to wear and tear for an extended period of time. This is a great idea for those wanting affordable, lightweight and a great looking flooring.

Real wood floors are an option many don’t consider for an RV makeover but it’s an idea worth entertaining. Standard tongue and groove wood floor can be expensive and heavy, but it looks amazing and is sure to hold up for a long time. Additionally, there are new, lightweight wood floor options from bamboo and cork that make excellent alternatives to hardwoods. If weight is of no concern, a real wood floor in your RV can provide an immensely custom feel and look to make the interior all your own.

The Walls

Many options exist with the walls as well. This is a great area to focus on if you don’t want to take on a huge remodel and are just looking for an easy way to change the feel and look of your RV. Many RV’s come out of the factory with a simple coat of paint or some sort of wallpaper on the walls. It is easy to paint over the existing paint with the color of your choice. If there is already wallpaper, you can strip it off with a little elbow grease and then apply the paint you desire or a new layer and look of wallpaper.

Peel and stick wallpaper is an easy, affordable option that comes in many different styles to cater to your aesthetic. RV panels are another option that are pretty quick to install and easy to remove or replace. Though not very aesthetically pleasing they can make for a quick cover-up of a problem area. Wood paneling or a similar wood-vibe laminate can also make for a unique and interesting addition. These can run heavy and expensive but if you want a look that matches a wood floor to turn your rig into a rolling cabin, consider wood paneling.

Once you’ve decided on what type of wall you’d like, you can then start to decorate said walls to your liking. Some of us like things simple and plain but a nice framed photo or piece of art can go a long way in making the RV really feel like a home. Even if you haven’t done anything to the walls, decorating them to any degree can really make it feel like you’ve made some big change on the interior. Clocks, coat racks, lighting, and anything else that can be hung on the wall works for this. Just make sure anything you hang is overly secure as to not crash and burn once the remodel is complete and you’re back out on the road.

Textiles/Upholstery

A simple idea to freshen up your RVs interior without starting any big construction projects is to focus on the textiles and upholstery. Throwing down a rug or two on the existing floor can provide warmth, color and change or cover up an ugly and worn floor. Replacing the window coverings and curtains can offer a more home-like atmosphere as most factory curtains are simple and plain. Custom RV curtains are available from different manufacturers and you can pick the exact size, color and design you like.

Changing up the upholstery of your couches and chairs is another idea for an easy makeover that can be done in a few hours. This could be as simple as placing fabric covers over the couches and chairs but you can take it a step further and go for a full on re-upholster. This can be a bit complicated of a project if you’ve never worked with fabric before, but it’s a fun one to take on and you don’t need any special skills to do it well. Just practice and patience. There are a wide range of different fabrics and designs to choose from.

Other ideas here include replacing the shower curtain, adding a tablecloth, hanging tapestries, or changing up the blankets and color schemes of the entire RV. Think of these accessories as your RV’s clothing. Change it as often as needed to suit the season, space, or situation. A small amount of effort can go a long way in making the makeover really shine.
