Looking for a great place to park your rig while you get your game on in the Wild West? We’ve selected four great casino RV Resorts where you can wind down and relax after you hit the tables or slots.
Gunsmoke RV Park in Dodge City, KS
This friendly RV resort is located on the western side of Dodge City, convenient to the Boothill Casino, Santa Fe Trail Tracks, and the Boot Hill Museum. This park can handle just about any rig size and offers tent camping.
Open mid-February through mid-November, the Gunsmoke RV Resort offers an Old West feel as it pays tribute to its namesake – the TV show, Gunsmoke. The store, office, activities building are situated like the storefronts in the show. There’s the Marshall’s Office (office and registration), the General Store (campground convenience store), the Sunflower Laundry, and the Trail’s End bathhouse. The park is also filled with Wild West décor.
Guests remark the most on the friendliness and cleanliness of this smaller RV park, which is a great stopping point if you’re headed north the Rockies or south to the desert. The pool and playground are updated and convenient to every site in the park.
A few specifics you may want to consider:
You’ll pay per person rates after two guests, but they are very reasonable.
Gunsmoke offers a standard 10% discount to military, AAA, and Good Sam members.
No carpets on the grass or wood campfires because of burn bans and frequent high winds.
Pechanga RV Resort in Temecula, CA
Looking for world-class gaming and world-class RV accommodations? Pechanga RV Resort hits the jackpot in RV resort amenities. With 210 spacious sites, size is no problem. They take “glamping” to a whole new level.
The RV resort features immaculate, treelined streets similar to an upscale residential neighborhood, but the nightly rates are comparable to standard RV parks. You’ll get a pull-through or back-in site with a complete concrete pad and shade at every site.
Designed to accommodate trailers to toy haulers to massive motor coaches, Pechanga has a space for everyone. The amenities include cable TV, WIFI, a heated pool with two spas, a dog park, on-site laundry, and a free on-property shuttle to the casino resort.
A unique attraction at this RV resort is the buddy site row. If you like camping and gaming with friends, this is a great spot to spend a few days.
What about pets and kids? This family-friendly, pet-friendly resort is a great place to stay with your kids or pups. However, the resort emphasizes that gaming is adults-only and there are some restrictions on number and behavior of pets.
The casino is considered the largest in California at 188,000 square-feet and more than 5,000 slot machines. Featuring a buffet, a steakhouse, cafes, and multiple bars, you can definitely find fun at Pechanga.
The resort even offers a rewards program toward a free night’s stay at the RV resort.
Area attractions outside the casino include the Journey Golf Course (at the resort), a spa (at the resort), 40+ local winery tours, Joshua Tree National Park (about two hours away), several off-road vehicle trails (within 30-60 minutes of the park), and hot air balloon rides over the Temecula Valley.
A couple of considerations: The resort only allows propane fires, and the city is known for lots of traffic.
Choctaw Casino KOA in Durant, OK
Driving west? Need a place to break up the drive? Want to pull a few slots or play a few rounds of blackjack? Then Choctaw KOA Park may be just the place. It’s also a great place to make a longer trip.
Rated the No. 1 KOA in America, this casino RV resort features a 12 by 80-foot concrete pad at every site. You’ll also get a covered patio with a table and grill, full hookups, WIFI, laundry, cable and hot, clean showers for around the same price as a state park campsite.
But wait, there’s more! You get a complimentary shuttle (pickup at your site) to the casino, which features 4,300 slot machines and 80 table games. The KOA has amenities which go above many other campgrounds – a game room, a dog park, a meeting room, a pool, a fitness center, a six-hole putt-putt course, a business center, a gift shop, and a playground.
If you’re looking for family-friendly activities, check out the Choctaw Casino’s District. This entertainment hub is designed for family entertainment and includes a four-screen cinema, a 20-lane bowling alley, and a giant arcade. The town of Durant also features a few fun attractions including the World’s Largest Peanut, the Fort Washita Historic Site, and the Three Valleys Museum. Durant is also just a couple of hours from Dallas and Oklahoma City.
A couple of considerations:
Shady spots are limited so book early
It’s not exactly on the way to anywhere, but it’s close to Interstate 35 which hits Dallas and OKC.
Weekends are a popular time so plan in advance.
Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort in Salem, OR
Want a great RV resort a little bit away from the casino action? Then Hee Hee Illahee RV Resort in Salem, OR is the place for you. This true resort is just an hour away from great gaming options and very near the Oregon coast (which is where the casinos are).
Situated near the famous Willamette Valley Wineries and the Enchanted Forest theme park as well as great shopping options, Hee Hee Illahee is a destination in itself. With great Wi-Fi (streaming quality at every site), 139 paved big rig friendly pull-thru sites with full hookups, a clubhouse with projector and video game station hookups, a year-round hot tub, a seasonal pool, an exercise room and even private mailboxes (for long-term stays), this is one nice campground.
The casinos and beaches are just over an hour’s drive, so if you’re traveling with your family, this could be a good stop along the way.
