The Meaford Independent reports that a study to upgrade the RV campground in Memorial Park has been approved by the Meaford (Ontario) City Council. Memorial is one of the only waterfront parks in Ontario, with a pet-friendly beach on Georgian Bay. Seventeen of the park’s 32 acres are developed as a campground, currently offering 121 tent-trailer 30-amp electric and water campsites, with 88 equipped with sewer. A waste station is also available. The campground is open from the first weekend in May until the week after Thanksgiving.
The council approved $85,000, with a maximum cap of $100,000, to develop a master plan for Memorial Park, to determine the most appropriate location for site expansions, cabins, and other facilities and if the infrastructure can support additional sites. Mayor Barb Clumpus explained, “One of the things we have to focus on is that the revenue generator at Memorial Park is the campground, and so that really is what contributes to everybody else using that park at no charge. So, spending some money on an in depth study of what could improve that particular revenue-generating capability, I think is a good return on our investment.” In addition to the campground, the park includes a beach, picnic area, playground, snack bar, miniature golf course, free parking and woodland trails.
