LINCOLN, Neb. â The Omaha World-Herald reports that the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has approved a rise in fees on tent and recreational vehicle sites as well as at indoor lodging and meeting facilities. A new five-tier system of categorizing and pricing campsites will ensure consistent fees at parks across the state. Primitive Tier 1 tent sites will increase from $8 to $10, with full-service Tier 5 sites costing $35. In addition, the parks division can add a $5 or $10 surcharge at designated “prime” sites, with the prettiest views and the highest demand from campers.
The increases are expected to raise about $2 million in new revenue, which will be used to address a $76 million maintenance backlog at the state’s parks as well as new upgrade to sites. Jim Swenson, administrator for the parks division, told the World-Herald in an earlier report, that the parks are seeing high demand for RV sites with more full-service hookups, including water, sewer and higher-amperage connections.
