AUSTIN, Texas - A new survey, sponsored by Outdoorsy and conducted online by YouGov, debunks several RV myths and offers often-surprising insights into travel trends. Among the findings: more than two-thirds of Americans (68%) say they would rather travel to a new destination every week than have sex every day (32%). The survey also found that 95% of Americans say the freedom to do what they want and experiencing new things (85%) are important factors in their happiness. For RV owners and those considering an RV journey, these percentages are even higher (99% and 98% of respondents). The need for new experience outweighs the desire for more material possessions (53%) and sharing life on social media (33%).
According to survey findings, only one in 10 Americans has ever rented an RV, but 48% would consider it. RV travel represents adventure for 45% of Americans, outpacing cruises and airplane travel and is a close second to train travel (47%). Adventure, freedom, disconnecting from work and reconnecting with family, as well as a lower price, are among the top reasons people choose to travel by RV.
“RV travel is making a big comeback, driven by millennials and their love of the freedom it offers,” Jeff Cavins, co-founder and CEO of Outdoorsy, said in a press release. “We have seen all types of people searching for adventurous experiences, and it validates that RVs are a better way to have an adventure when you’re traveling and want to be fully immersed in the experience of the open road and destinations.”
