PRESTON, Conn. - According to stories in The Day, a regional paper, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which operates the Foxwoods Casino and a large Native American museum on its Connecticut reservation lands, has received approval to develop plans to build a full-service RV resort along the Route 2 corridor from the Preston Planning and Zoning Commission. The proposed site includes three large fields owned by the tribe along Route 2, running from the Route 164 intersection to the Hilton Garden Inn at the Watson Road intersection. The land abuts Avery Pond near the Route 164 junction.
Jesse Luis, vice president of development for Foxwoods Resort Casino, told The Day that the tribe owns 65 acres in that location and has discussed developing an RV resort there for some time. Foxwoods has an area for RV owners to park, he said, but it does not offer the amenities and services a fully developed park would provide. He believes the development would benefit Preston by bringing jobs to town both during construction and for operations, and it would promote tourism for the town and region.
