Prescribed Burn Planned for Sections of Gulf State Park Campground
Editor's Note: This news items was retrieved and first published through Outdoor Alabama's website.
A prescribed burn is planned at Gulf State Park located in Baldwin County, Alabama as part of a forest management plan associated with longleaf pine restoration, fuel reduction and invasive species control. The planned burn will take place in Gulf State Park campground between sites 188 and 316 on September 10-14, 2018, weather permitting. Prescribed fires are an effective way to reduce wildfire risk, reduce fuel loads, enhance wildlife habitat and maintain a healthy forest ecosystem. This is especially important in the south Alabama coastal region due to the vegetation type and a longer growing season. View video for more info.
According to a press release from Outdoor Alabama and The Alabama State Parks Division, this burn will enable the Alabama State Parks Division to manage the park’s forest resources better in the future. Every effort is being made to ensure safety and proper smoke management during these burns. This project complies with a permit from the Alabama Forestry Commission.
