HURRICANE, Utah - KUTV and the St. George News report that developer Jim Thomas is seeking a zoning change to permit him to build Lost Trails at the Cove, a 340-acre mixed use project he expects to cost $28 million. Describing it as a family-friendly destination, Thomas said Lost Trails would include an Old West town with 25 shops and three restaurants including a 1,200-seat indoor dinner show, a wedding chapel, Spanish gardens, 60-room hotel and an RV park. A residential neighborhood of 700-750 homes would surround the Old West town, where Western-themed entertainment such as shootouts, riding demonstrations and music would take place in the town square.
Local residents, especially those from Sky Mountain, a golf community located on the far side of a volcanic cone from the proposed project, have raised concerns about increased noise and traffic at public meetings. Thomas says he is sensitive to these issues and will address them in his final proposal. He has completed a similar project in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
