News Blip: Wisconsin City Seeks To Improve Recreational Programs
Portage Daily Register Reports On The City's First Ever Recreation Coordinator To Enhance Outdoor Programs For Its Residents
Wisconsin city hires first-ever recreation coordinator Michael Percy. The newly created position in Portage’s Parks and Recreation Department has a task to oversee and expand the city’s recreational programs. The Portage Common Council decided in a special meeting that the coordinator must get certified as an instructor in water safety sometime in the next six months.
Portage Daily Register writer Lyn Jerde relates in his article: "Aquatics are a key part of Portage’s recreation offerings, with the Silver Lake Beach open in warm weather and the indoor pool at Rusch Elementary School open year-round. The city has outsourced the training of lifeguards and swimming instructors, but a recreation coordinator with a soon-to-have water safety certification could take over that task. Hopefully the town and its residents will soon get a chance to experience the great outdoors as they were meant to be with the direction of this new leader.
