The Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) announced that New Hampshire has become the 16th state to establish an Office of Outdoor Recreation (OREC). On Oct. 10, Gov. Chris Sununu signed legislation aimed at growing the outdoor industry and attracting the workforce of the future to the state. The New Hampshire OREC will be part of the state’s Department of Business and Economic Affairs.
As part of its initiative to create state-level offices of outdoor recreation across the country, OIA representatives lobbied legislators in Concord, New Hampshire and worked with NEMO Equipment, the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Northern Forest Center, and others to rally support among members of the outdoor industry and recreationists. In a news release, Cam Brensinger, founder and CEO of NEMO Equipment, and member of the OIA board of directors, said, “As a New Hampshire-based outdoor company, Nemo is thrilled the state will join the growing movement of creating outdoor recreation offices across the nation. Here in New Hampshire, outdoor recreation generates $8.7 billion in consumer spending and supports 79,000 jobs.”
