PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona State Parks and Trails announced the signing of a new consent agreement with Havasu Riviera Marina, LLC to begin the next phase of the long-delayed Havasu Marina State Park, located just to the south of Lake Havasu City along the Colorado River. According to the Havasu Riviera Marina, LLC will be responsible for developing the new state park, which is to include a six-lane boat launch ramp, a 200-slip marina and dry dock, a waterfront restaurant, a beach, watercraft rentals and day-use areas. The state park is part of a larger 550-acre Havasu Riviera development with includes a 250-acre master planned resort community, a 300-room hotel, and 280 acres set aside for recreational use by Lake Havasu City, which plans a golf course, botanical garden, and a performing arts/ convention center on the land.
Local news reports cite a change in leadership at Arizona State Parks, a do-over of a massive grading project, and other problems that have stalled the project since the official groundbreaking in 2016. The new agreement puts a financial mechanism in place to be sure the development proceeds on schedule from here on out. The state park is estimated to be completed in phases over the next several years. The developer will have a 40-year contract to operate the marina and concessions in the park, after which ownership of the property and facilities reverts to Arizona State Parks and Trails.
The state also operates Lake Havasu State Park, which offers camping and cabins, just to the north of Lake Havasu City. For additional information, visit the Arizona State Parks and Trails website.
