Hawaii's Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the reopening of Ha'ena State Park and trail access to Na Pali Coast State Park sometime mid-June. They have been closed since last April. Flood waters wiped out park infrastructure and caused landslides along Kalalau Trail. Repair work is underway and part of the reopening will include limiting visitors.
KITV staff reports that roughly 3,000 people visited the park per day before the flooding. They're hoping to bring that number down to 900 people. Parking spaces will be limited and there will be a fee. There will also be a shuttle taking visitors with reservations to the parks. DLNR will announce the an exact date for the parks reopen in May.
