Day Use For Florida's Torreya State Park Reopens Following Hurricane Michael

BRISTOL, Fla. - The Florida Department of Environmental Protection announces the reopening of portions of Torreya State Park for day use following the damage done by Hurricane Michael. The park experienced downed trees and debris, facility, boardwalk damage, and road and trail damage. Torreya State Park was partially reopened the second week of December following weeks of clean-up and repair.
According to a press release by the Florida DEP, "Visitor safety remains paramount as response efforts continue. Florida State Parks staff continue to work as quickly as possible to finish remaining clean-up and repairs at impacted parks. Amenities and access to certain areas of the parks, including the campground and trails, may be limited until the work is completed." Park staff and volunteers helped get the day use area for the Florida State Park going. said Florida State Parks Director Eric Draper. "We hope to reopen all of the state parks impacted by Hurricane Michael as soon as possible," said Florida State Parks Director Eric Draper. Of the 31 state parks affected by the storm, only five parks remain closed.
