Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through MSN's website.
MSN news reports on a man who walked off the boardwalk and across the outflow stream and thermal area of Grand Prismatic Spring at Yellowstone National Park. The incident caused the man to receive four days in jail, fined $1,040, and received a year of probation and a one-year ban from Yellowstone National Park. He was sentenced Tuesday, July 9, and punishment was designed to send a message to others thinking about defying federal regulations.
As stated in the article by MSN writer David Strege: Jason Nguyen, 28, pleaded for no jail time, but Judge Mark Carman did not relent. The original agreement Nguyen reached with a U.S. attorney was to pay a $1,540 fine. A witness videotaped the act and reported Jason to authorities after overhearing him discuss the mischief with his friend.
