Curbed.com reports that the Sugarcreek, Ohio based company nüCamp RV, has landed the contract to produce the Barefoot Caravan in the United States. The cute fiberglass camper is wildly popular in its native Britain, and according to its website, Barefoot has received numerous inquiries from hopeful owners in the States. The retro-inspired teardrop was designed by Cathy Chamberlain and students from the Automotive and Transport Design Course at Coventry University, with the goal of producing a trailer that is both chic and easy to tow. It comes in a range of trendy colors, including the popular robin’s egg blue, sleeps two, and incorporates a kitchen, bath, dining area, even a wine rack into its compact 16-foot egg shape.
The nuCamp company has extensive experience building teardrops and other small trailers and truck campers. Begun in 2005 in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country as Pleasant Valley Teardrops, the company focused from the start on manufacturing vintage teardrop trailers reminiscent of campers from the 1930s and ’40s. nuCamp currently produces the Danish-designed TAB Teardrop Trailers and Campers and the Cirrus Truck Camper. Company execs told Curbed they hope to bring the Barefoot to the North American market in early 2020.
