Brattleboro Reformer Reports On Leland and Gray Middle School Students Visiting Thailand For A Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience
Nine lucky students from Leland and Gray Middle School in Townshend got the opportunity of a lifetime when asked to travel to Bangkok, Thailand from their small town in Vermont. Math teacher Mr. Florencio Ricohermoso, AKA Mr. Rico, chaperoned the students on this exotic journey. The students were able to experience a completely different culture of food, people, and lifestyle. Some of the most memorable activities were visiting ancient Buddhist temples, encountering an elephant sanctuary, and eating deep-fried insects.
As Brattleboro Reformer writer Mack Neal relays in his article: "Nearly four years later and made possible by a Herculean fund raising effort, Mr. Rico, also known as Rence, led a group of nine students: two eighth graders, five freshmen, two sophomores and two other chaperones from Townshend to Bangkok. Immediately, upon arrival the group, led by EF Tours, diligently explored the countryside traveling north to Chiang Mai, visiting as many attractions and events as humanly possible in a 24-hour period along the way."
