SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Penn. âThe Meadville Tribune reports that the Summit Township Zoning Hearing Board has approved a request from the trustees of the Conneaut Lake Park to expand the park’s Camperland campground with 57 full hookup RV campsites to generate more revenue for the non-profit park. Currently Camperland offers 56 full hookup sites, plus 31 tent sites, 22 water and electric sites, and five primitive cabins.
Founded in 1892 as Exposition Park as a permanent fairground and exposition for livestock and farm machinery in Western Pennsylvania, the amusement park on the shores of the state’s largest natural lake has welcomed generations of visitors. Renamed Conneaut Lake Park in 1920, the park today features a number of historic rides, including the oldest surviving Tumble Bug, an Allan Herschell miniature train, the historic Blue Streak wooden roller coaster (built in 1938 and recently refurbished, named a classic coaster by the American Coaster Enthusiasts) as well as a boardwalk and beach on the lakefront.
