BLM Event Thanks Mustang Heritage Foundation For Contribution

As a thank you for receiving assistance and contributions of the Mustang Heritage Foundation, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is recognizing the foundation during a wild horse and burro event at Meadowood Recreation Area in Lorton, Virginia on Nov. 2-3. The BLM’s partnership with the MHF began in 2007 and since then the organization has been responsible for the placement of more than 11,200 wild horses and burros in good homes.
The BLM manages and protects wild horses and burros under the authority of the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. As of March 1, 2018, the wild horse and burro population on public lands was estimated at approximately 81,950 animals, which is now more than triple the size the land can support along with other legally mandated uses. Actions must be taken to control overpopulation and reduce the effects of damage to rangeland resources. Quoted in a press release by the BLM, Deputy Director Brian Steed says “The Mustang Heritage Foundation’s commitment and contribution is a testament to the positive impact a committed, successful partner can provide the program. We’re grateful for all the group’s help and support in finding good homes for the animals.”
