VICKSBURG, Miss. - Federal Lands Transportation Program fund the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair roads and parking lots at Sardis Lake’s Hurricane Landing Recreation Area. The entrance road leading into the area, interior roads, and parking lots have begun to deteriorate with numerous potholes and cracks. Hurricane Landing Area is a popular spot for fishermen, especially during the spring crappie spawn.
According to an Army COE press release, construction is to begin the last week in October throughout the winter season. This area will be closed beginning Oct. 29 and its entrance road will be barricaded at the intersection with county Road 139. The campground at Hurricane Landing has been closed. Construction will impact the area beginning at the intersection of Lafayette County Roads 103 and 108 and will continue along county Road 108 into the Hurricane Landing Recreation Area. Residents along county Roads 139, 1016, and 1017 will experience an impact in traffic. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana that holds seven major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline levees.
