Areas Of Ozark National Scenic Riverways Under Emergency Closures
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved through NPS's website.
EMINENCE, Mo. -- Missouri’s Ozark National Scenic Riverways suffered extensive flood damage in both April 2017 and February 2018, resulting in damage to many of its services. Piers underneath the Alley Spring pedestrian bridge adjacent to Highway 106 have been damaged by flooding, causing the piers beneath the bridge to become unstable, and it has been permanently closed, pending demolition. The Jacks Fork River beneath and adjacent to the bridge is temporarily closed to all activities, including swimming, floating, fishing and gravel bar use within 100 feet of the bridge. The highway bridge remains open.
Park visitors floating down the Jacks Fork above the bridge must take out near the campground at the Alley Spring gravel bar. The Burr Oak day use area just downstream from the bridge will serve as an alternate river access for concession operations and visitors who want to float downstream from Alley Spring. In addition, Akers Ferry on the Current River remains closed until further notice. Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people. For additional information, contact park headquarters at (573) 323-4236, or visit the park’s website.
