Texas is the fastest growing state in the United States. Every year since 2000, almost half a million new residents have made Texas home. Much of its population growth is concentrated in the cities of Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston. Its growth is attributed to a great job market and a more balanced lifestyle than elsewhere - where folks work hard, but also have plenty of places to play and enjoy life. It is little wonder, then, that Summer Breeze USA RV Resorts is showing a lot of popularity in the Houston area and is expanding with two new resorts very soon - one this summer and one next year.
"For the past 2 years, we have started to put our footprint across Texas," said Jessica Holcomb, General Regional Manager of Summer Breeze USA RV Resorts, "And one of our goals is to be a destination in each of the areas we have resorts." Currently, there are two resorts open under the Summer Breeze USA umbrella - one in Conroe, Texas and one in Victoria, Texas. They are in the process of building a new resort in Kemah near the coast (to be open in the next few months) and one in Katy that will open sometime next year (which will become their flagship resort).
The common threads of all the resorts are the emphasis on a relaxed, resort-like campground. They all have resort style pools, full hook-ups, and events that bring the community together like free donuts and coffee on 1st Saturday of each month. "We also have a 3-day music festival coming during Memorial Day Weekend at Conroe and Victoria," Holcomb said. The clientele is all across the board - from the winter Texans that stay for months to families that come for the weekend. "A lot of Texans use us as a peaceful weekend retreat away from home," she said.

The Conroe resort is in the northern region of Houston. "The feel of Conroe is more country and woodsy because of the area," Holcomb said. The resort has hiking trails and bird watching, fishing ponds, as well as "the biggest hot tub in Texas," according to the website. People have noticed the transition of the campground, formerly known as Country Place RV Park, into a resort. One user said, "Good park that is getting better and better. Ownership recently changed and the new owner is making major changes that are turning the park more into a resort. The new manager is great and holds lots of events for kids and families...Once this park is finished with construction and improvements it will be a premiere destination in the area." They have added a new basketball court, state-of-the-art playground equipment, professional grade outdoor shuffleboard court and recently upgraded internet using fiber optics.
The Victoria resort is a couple of hours south of Houston near the coast. It is 25 miles from Port Lavaca and the Gulf of Mexico. It has 75' pull-through sites available, high-speed Wi-Fi and a clubhouse with kitchen, shuffleboard and other amenities. One user said, "Everyone is so friendly. It being Memorial Day weekend, they had food, drinks and music by the pool which was super cool. We look forward to going again. If you are staying in Victoria, this is the place to stay.”
Holcomb tells The Buzz they are building an additional 5-acres of recreation, which include a waterpark at the Victoria resort, and she thinks that'll be a huge draw, especially for families. Victoria itself has some great attractions, such as the 660-acre Riverside Park on the Guadalupe River, which has a zoo, trails, kayak rentals, rose garden, and more.
The soon-to-be open Kemah resort will be a bit smaller than the others: 100 sites, however the location is prime for ocean visiting. It is located 15 minutes south of Kemah Boardwalk and it is right next to the water. "It's all about the location for this resort," Holcomb said. "It is all concrete pads with full hookups and we are putting in fiber optic high-speed internet as well. There will be a ‘bark-park’ for our fur pals and a small clubhouse. Plus, a family-sized hot tub!" The Kemah Boardwalk has a little bit of everything - rollercoasters, restaurants, stores, and plenty of festivals and shows during the year. Galveston is about a 30 minute drive south, where visitors can go to the glass pyramid Moody Gardens or beautiful Galveston Island State Park.
Next year, they will be opening their flagship resort in Katy, Texas, 30 minutes west of downtown Houston. "We will be completing it in phases," Holcomb explained. It will have 214 RV sites on 33 acres. There will be a Palapa Resort style pool, a family sized hot tub and a NASA -themed water park.
