Airstream CEO: “We Can’t Kid Ourselves”
Editor's Note: This news item was retrieved and first published through Forbes' website.
Forbes interviewed Airstream CEO Bob Wheeler on the future of the iconic brand. Wheeler told the magazine he is ready to experiment with new model styles, without Airstream's signature aluminum shell and rivets, to make the company’s vehicles more appealing to younger buyers. He says he is taking a longer view to understand how the 88-year-old company is can be relevant for millennials and Generation Z, the RVers of the future.
“I’m not convinced it’s just a variant of our classic Airstream travel trailer. Our product is expensive, and it’s lightweight, but it’s not light enough for the needs of many millennials who are driving Subarus and crossover SUVs,” Wheeler said. “We can’t kid ourselves that we can just tweak the formula here and expect it to go on for the next generation.”
