Bringing The Pregnancy Experience From The Doctor’s Office To The Comfort Of One's Home With Their User-Friendly Products
For an expectant mother, there is almost nothing more thrilling than hearing the baby’s heartbeat for the first time. The faint but persistent thump thump, thump thump is soothing assurance that the baby is safe, strong, and growing.
The products developed by Comper Healthcare, based in San Jose, California, help to bring this experience from the doctor’s office to the comfort of home. Their fetal monitor is just one product in their line of healthcare products that helps mothers achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Founder and CEO Du Han knew she wanted her products to be “friends” to mothers as they cared for themselves, their pregnancies, and their families. As a mother with a degree in Medical Science, and eight years of medical study behind her, she sought to improve upon her own experience with healthcare products. When she was trying to become pregnant with her second child, she purchased a German-made fertility tracker.
“Although the device was very expensive, the user experience was bad,” she explains. “It was not portable, and it was complicated to operate even for someone with a medical education background like me.”
Han could only imagine how frustrating the experience must be for other women just like her--women around the world hoping to track their ovulation and successfully get pregnant. She decided that she was in an ideal position to create a better fertility tracking experience.
“From that time, I decided to start the company and make a more user-friendly fertility tracker. It had to be well-designed, portable, easy to read, and smart (compatible with the cellphone).”
Established in Silicon Valley in 2014, Han and her team are developing a line of products which, in Han’s words, will “reinvent healthcare experiences and create more joy and value to individuals and families.”
After founding the company, Han quickly settled on the first products she would focus on: a fertility tracker and fetal monitor.
“As a woman and a mother, I believe females are of great importance to the wellness of the whole family. Therefore, it’s natural for us to extend the product line from the fertility tracker...to the fetal monitor which for moms-to-be.... It’s quite crucial for women during and after pregnancy to track health data continuously and precisely….”
The Comper Smart Fertility Tracker works using the basal body temperature method. By taking their temperature while at rest, women are able to pinpoint slight increases that ovulation causes in their resting temperature. This helps them to track their ovulation and mark the calendar days on which they are most fertile.
As Han explains, “The Comper Smart Fertility Tracker reaches a great balance between [speed] and accuracy, allowing users to get accurate oral temperatures in shorter time than a lot of similar products. It gets an accurate reading to 2 decimal places, so it’s easy to catch slight changes between 0.2 to 0.5 degrees Celsius during ovulation.... The results will be kept in the device and automatically sync [with the] Comper Woman app.”
And, as Han promised, the design and portability of the Comper Smart Fertility Tracker are user-friendly. The tracker comes in a “three-in-one” box for storing, charging, and disinfecting, all at once.
The Comper Smart Doppler Fetal Monitor uses Doppler technology to help expectant mothers hear their babies’ heartbeats.
“The Comper Smart Doppler Fetal Monitor is designed with specific technology which is able to eliminate various noises around the fetus such as the sound of blood flow and amniotic fluid, etc. It is in sync with the Comper Woman app to record, analyze, and chart the fetal heartbeat data and sound… [to] inform you about fetal wellbeing in real time.”
Comper’s line of products also includes items that are useful to the family after a baby is born. The Comper Smart Scale, designed to be the thinnest smart scale on the market, can be used during and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, women can watch their weight gain to make sure they are gaining weight at a healthy pace. After baby is born, if a mother wants to take off a few pounds, using the Comper Woman app, she can record her weight, set weight loss goals, and receive personalized advice based on analysis of her BMI.
The Comper Smart Thermometer is the ideal companion for parents who need to know their child’s temperature fast. It is designed to give accurate readings simply by touching the forehead, eliminating the need for oral, under the arm, or other types of invasive temperature readings. The thermometer also connects with the Comper Woman app to track a child’s fever throughout its duration, helping Mom and Dad keep track and stay alert to any changes in their child’s wellbeing.
As Comper launches their products on the market, their goal is to be a positive influence in people’s everyday health decisions. Han’s personal experience has been instrumental in helping them reach this goal.
“[My] role as a mother makes me pay more attention on the quality and design. We hope our products can be a mother’s trusty companion and a baby’s guardian. In order to achieve this goal, we invest a lot in both software and hardware R&D and observe the related rules and regulations strictly. We also lay a lot of stress on the improvement of women’s awareness by promoting medical knowledge and a healthy lifestyle.”
Comper’s mission of “well-made for well-being” has resulted in practical, portable products which families can take on the road with them. For regular travelers, Comper’s products are ideal for their mobile lifestyle. World-leading technology and compact designs come together in these products to help mothers track their health and support the wellbeing of their entire family no matter where they are.
As Han explains, “Well-made for well-being means [we] use well-designed medical devices to create a better life, providing [a] simple, comfortable, secure, and real-time experience.”
