Shopping. Water parks. Carnivals. The ocean.
Is there anything that Myrtle Beach doesn't have?
Well, that's what Sun RV Resorts had been trying to figure out themselves. And that's a question they now have an answer to: Myrtle Beach is missing a luxury resort.
And that's exactly what Sun RV Resorts has started building in Conway, west of Myrtle Beach, earlier this month. Construction of the newest Signature Sun RV Resort, Carolina Pines, commenced after the ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday, April 10.
For a little bit of a background, Sun RV Resorts is part of the Sun Communities, Inc. portfolio. The company manages Recreational Vehicle communities located in 29 states across the United States and Ontario, Canada. Sun Communities' portfolio consists of approximately 120,000 developed sites.
According to Regional Vice President Mindy Kirtley, the luxury resort will be unlike anything else in the area. There will be a restaurant on the property, offering local beers and wine. Guests will be able to experience a unique take on Southern hospitality, with the ability to find their inner daredevils at the water park, play a round of mini golf, cool off with a cold beer, and then revel in some down-home dining — all without leaving the resort. And plenty of green spaces, offering a lot of room for dogs to run.
The resort will also feature oversized luxury RV sites to accommodate any size, and park model sales for those looking to buy their own piece of Myrtle Beach.
The idea of a luxury resort came to Sun RV Resorts after visiting the area and discussing opportunities with other Myrtle Beach businesses. With over 14 million visitors each year, South Carolina's center of tourism always has room for growth.
Despite being within miles of the Atlantic Ocean, the Conway property can't “sell the beach” since they're not directly on it, said Kirtley, so they had to find something unique about the area. Something that no other RV park offered. Only minutes away from a golf course, shopping, and the water, the luxury RV park is a one-of-a-kind blend of outdoor adventure and resort comfort not found anywhere else in or around Myrtle Beach.
“This is a destination we're really excited about being a part of,” said Kirtley. “It's incredibly premature at this point. But we're excited to get going. And we're excited to get to know people in the area and in the market. We're looking forward to our adventure in Myrtle Beach.”
They are hoping the resort will be complete in the late spring to early summer of 2019.
Having resorts all over the United States (and Canada), Sun RV Resorts are not new to this process. Finding what's unique about each area they build in, and finding ways to add to that aesthetic while providing something completely new, is really what Sun RV Resorts is all about.
In Mystic, Conn., Sun RV Resorts has Seaports Campground, a relaxed, yet upscale country getaway within minutes of Mystic Seaport and numerous art galleries. Wine Country RV Resort in Paso Robles, California offers a waterfall and spa, surrounded by wineries and vineyards.
It's this careful attention to detail that will surely make their Conway getaway a nice addition to Myrtle Beach's vacation scene.
“They all have totally different vibes,” gushed Kirtley. “Nothing is cookie cutter. A lot of factors go into that. It's all about the market, the location and what other parks are in the area.”
Kirtley has been with Sun RV Resorts for over four years now. And working in the RV industry has really opened her eyes to new ways of vacationing. New ways of experiencing destinations.
“Before I started working in this industry, I never stayed at RV parks with my children,” she admitted. “But after four years of working with RVs, I thought, 'I wish I had done this.' You have a yard, a full kitchen, activities for the whole family... There's so much more to do. There's land. You're closer to nature. There's so much more to work with than if you're in a high rise hotel.”
