A Highly Versatile, One-Person, Portable, Sleep System That Is 6’8” Long And Almost 3 Feet Wide
Born in the Australian Outback, and inspired by the legendary swagman who carried his belongings wrapped up in a blanket called a swag, the Kodiak Canvas Swag tent is a highly versatile, one-person, portable, sleep system.
“Camping is huge down-under with people car camping,” said Aaron Hill, president and founder of Kodiak Canvas in Layton, Utah. “Australians have a lot of country to explore and we’ve taken the idea of the traditional swag and created something more modern.”
Hill explains that the swag tent is an advanced evolution of the traditional bedroll. Add a blanket or sleeping bag, and you have all you need to bed down. Unroll and set it up in a matter of minutes. It is six feet eight inches long and nearly three feet wide, providing a roomy sleeping space even for big guys. Use it on the ground, in the bed of a pickup, or with a compatible cot.
“While you might not be in Oz, hiking through the domes of Kata Tjuta or walking the base of Uluru to sleeping under the stars on the beaches of the Great Barrier Reef nestled in your Kodiak Canvas Swag, you can use this tent pretty much everywhere in the U.S.,” Hill said. “After spending the day wandering wooded paths, admiring breathtaking views, and dipping your toes into a crystal clear creek, you can climb into this tent with no-see-um screen mesh and gaze up at the moon until you fall asleep.”
The Roomy 6’8” long, and almost 3 feet wide Kodiak Swag Tent is made with premium-grade, Hydra-Shield™, 100% cotton duck canvas. The tight weave and silicone finish make the canvas watertight yet breathable, minimizing condensation and mugginess. Unlike canvas tents of years past, this canvas will not wick water. Watertight and breathable, means you stay more comfortable. Aluminum alloy poles provide sturdy structure. The floor is a heavy-duty, puncture resistant, 16 oz. vinyl that keeps water out. Unzip screened windows in the head and foot for airflow. These windows have small awnings over them so they can be opened even when it’s raining. When weather permits, roll the top cover back, and it’s like sleeping under the stars. The screen mesh keeps the bugs and critters out. Included is a 2-inch thick, open-cell, polyurethane foam mattress pad. The pad has a removable flannel cover that can be washed.
“I recently purchased the 1- man swag,’ said Todd Martin, of El Cajon, CA. “It held up well in the mountains during a long rain. One of my latest inventions is a poor man's overland set up. I did this for a solo wilderness trip I took in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I thought I would share in case anyone is interested in a similar set up. The Kodiak Canvas Swag tent fit perfectly on my Gobi rack. My 4WD took me to 13000 elevation and some beautiful places in the wilderness. Maybe there are others who might benefit from a similar set up.”
When it’s time to move on down the road, the Swag packs up in no time—mattress pad, sleeping bag (sold separately), blankets and all. Everything is neatly rolled and ready for the next stop.
Bruce Myers in San Clement, CA uses his Kodiak tent in the back of his Dodge Ram truck.
“I prefer to buy quality, he said. “After reviewing all the other tents on the market, I selected Kodiak Canvas. No regrets. It’s the best. Five of my buddies have bought Kodiak tents since checking out mine. This tent packs down to nothing so I take it on long trips when I will be driving through remote areas as an emergency shelter, in case I break down or get stuck someplace without cellular service. It takes me five minutes to put up, half that to pull down. It’s worth every cent.”
The Kodiak Canvas tent evokes memories of a slow lifestyle and a pleasant relaxed atmosphere whether you are set up next to the rugged rock formations of Joshua Tree or in Tasmania, sleeping under the tallest gum trees in the world, this is the easiest and most durable one-man tent on the market today.
