Friends of Pocahontas State Park
Our Backyard is 8000 Acres! One of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering at your state park is the joy of familiarity. At first, we each approach the park with tentative, excited curiosity. As newcomers the land, the staff, the volunteers and the wonders of the park are unfamiliar. Then, as we spend more time in the park, we begin to understand its secrets and see for the first time its true nature and potential. The staff and volunteers become friends and coworkers. The trails become passages from one wonder to another. And, in time, the park becomes a part of us. As comfortable and familiar as our own home. We relish in an 8000 acre back yard all to ourselves yet shared with hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Our Mission The Friends of Pocahontas is a volunteer organization dedicated to supporting Pocahontas State Park. There are no fees to join and no limits on who can get involved. In addition to supporting park events and instructional programs, we maintain 25+ miles of single track mountain bike trails and supply all of the park's firewood each year.
