Ways to Know If RV Life Is Right for You
Author: Guest
Before you kick-start your RVing adventure, it's best you know whether making such a lifestyle-changing decision is good for you or your family. Even though the whole setup might seem appealing to many people at first, not everyone can cope with life on the go, as they call it. Somewhat deprived of all the luxuries of a sedentary life, people find it hard to adapt to RV culture. Luckily, there's something of a test you can employ to figure out if RV life is right for you: questions you can ask yourself to know this. Once you're done reading this text, you'll have a clear picture of whether such a lifestyle change is something that can bring you joy. Stay tuned for some helpful info!
#1 Are you what people call an adventure seeker?
Do you consider yourself a person who craves adventures or who's always planning a trip? If so, RV life might be the best thing that happened to you. Living on the road will enable you to explore fantastic natural imagery and see things many people comfortable with a sedentary lifestyle won't get to see. However, if you prefer comfort over thrills, RV life might not be the best option. Our suggestion is that you watch the movie called My Dinner with Andre. It might subtly help you find an answer to this conundrum.
#2 Are you up for a challenge?
There's no need to emphasize that life on the road can be quite challenging. There are many things that can go wrong, and you have to be up to the task to resolve these issues. Therefore, you can say there's always something new to learn: backing up your fifth wheel, navigating through a troublesome terrain, and so on. If you think this doesn't look like a problem for you, RV life will suit you well.
#3 Are you a people person?
If you love meeting new people, there's a good chance you'll enjoy living your life RV-style. Usually, RVers are pretty outgoing, extroverted, and friendly people. Not only will you always have good company (if that's your desire), but you'll also enjoy a helping hand whenever needed. Also, you'll probably get invited to many bonfire meals, which can't be bad. Lastly, RVers love to share their stories, so you won't have any trouble being a beginner. They'll gladly help you overcome some beginner fears and doubts: many have made friends for life in this manner.
#4 Are you ready to give up certain luxuries?
Giving up mightn't be the right thing to say here. It's not like you'll have to say goodbye to comfort in exchange for nothing. In other words, life on the road doesn't require you to give up certain luxuries, but it does make you trade them. For instance, if you want to see a sky full of stars, so full as you've never seen it before, you might want to park your RV inside a no-electricity camp. Also, if you're staying somewhere off-the-grid for more than just a few days, you might be required to skip a few showers. Now, of course, there are premium RV resorts that don't lack any little luxury of sedentary life. However, that's not what we envision as RV life (life on the road).
#5 Are you completely free of your obligations toward other people in your community?
This question might sound a bit weird, but you can't kick-start your life on the road if you've got obligations toward some people inside your community. For instance, if your elderly parents depend on your care and presence, opting for RV life doesn't sound like something you should do. Expanding the distance between yourself and the people you care for and love is one of the hardest things you can do. If you don't see yourself being carefree on the road, RV life might not be for you.
#6 Are you fine with bugs?
There's no need to emphasize that being in the outdoors is synonymous with being bugged by bugs (no pun intended). We're talking about all the ants, mosquitoes, bees, and other lovely creatures that might find their way into your RV home. If you hate dealing with bugs or you're pretty afraid of them, RV life mightn't be all that exciting for you since various insects will surely choose to visit your campsite. However, if you're made out of harder material and bugs aren't an issue, life on the road may be just the lifestyle change you deserve.
#7 Are you ok with cramped space?
As we're sure you know, each and every person needs their own space sometimes, and such a thing can be a bit of an issue when you're living the RV life. If you're not sporting a luxurious spacey RV, you won't enjoy much personal space and privacy inside your trusty vehicle. Think about it: you'll have to carve out the time to read a book or listen to music intentionally. If this doesn't sound all right to you or if you get claustrophobic at times, it's best you avoid trying out the RV life.
#8 Are you willing to change?
Lastly, let's discuss the stress and anxiety associated with the transition to RV life. Such a change might cause easily cause your heart rate to go up since you'll be leaving your friends and loved ones behind to jump into this adventure. Also, depending on what kind of RV life you choose to take on, you might need to downsize and go minimalist. Some people aren't so keen on saying goodbye to most of their material possessions. If you can embrace this change with an open heart, RV life is the option of your dreams.
