One of the biggest complaints I hear from RV customers is “I just wish we had more room for storage.” I always ask them if they know the old “less is more” saying. The looks I get are sometimes that of annoyance, but as I go on to share some ideas that annoyance turns into a big smile. So with spring being upon us, I thought I would share some of these ideas to help get some much needed space by being extra organized.
Kitchen
Some RV kitchens can be quite challenging, as you all know. Taking a minute to look around at the space you have been given can open a whole new world of options. You can start by putting hooks on the walls and backs of cabinet doors to hang kitchen gadgets. Even spices can be hung up on the back of cabinet doors using gripping strips. There are also many hanging baskets that can easily be hung from the ceiling that can carry fruit or even dishes. My favorite kitchen space saver is the magnetic cutting board. Simply attach a metal sheet to the bottom of one of your overhead cabinets and install a few magnets to the bottom of your cutting board and voila, you have an instant storage spot.
Bathroom
So if we think the kitchen is challenging well the bathroom is just impossible. Right…nope! Where there is space we will find it. Hooks again are always great for this area too. Let’s see if we can push it a bit further. Hanging wall nets are wonderful for holding toiletries and hair products. Over the door shoe hangers can be used for storing all types of bathroom products from first aide to small blow driers. My favorite storage idea for the bathroom is hanging decorative baskets from towel rack or hooks and filling the baskets with anything you might need.
Bedroom
The bedroom is typically more spacious and even has drawers and/or closets to put your gear away. I think we can really organize this space to give optimum space and even make a special spot for the kids. My first thought is always the hooks, but in this case I think baskets stacked on wire shelves inside cabinets will give you a lot more space. You can even add some light weight shelving to give you more room as needed. Shoes can be placed in hanging wall nets or hung over the door in shoe hangers. My favorite bedroom trick is a study/play area for the kids. Any type of wall hanging storage can be used for children’s books, toys, and even video game controllers. If you have the space, give them an area to call their own and they will stay busy which will allow you to relax a bit.
So, when you think about getting your coach organized for the new season or sprucing up your home on wheels, creativity is all it takes to get you stepping in the right direction. The more you can do to tuck things away in unused space the better. Ask your local RV parts person for some ideas or check with other RVers to see what they have tried. There are so many ideas out there to discover online or you can come up with your own. Whichever works best for you in your space will be fantastic, but please remember to share all of your ideas with us here at MobileRVing.com. Happy Trails…
