LED Lighting for the RV is a great way to go for many reasons. With the world striving toward a cleaner environment, the idea of LED lighting over incandescent or fluorescent bulbs has become very popular. Not only does this help to reduce carbon emissions for future generations, but it will help your coach operate more efficiently and save you money in the long run. Here are some of the reasons you may want to consider switching to LEDs.
• The Wow Factor- LED bulbs come in a variety of colors from cool to warm that will impress you and your passengers. Make your coach burst alive with Bright White LEDs or warm it up with warmer tones of the Soft White. Soft white is great for seating areas and bedrooms, while the cooler tones will help you see better in the kitchen and bathroom.
• Please Save the Batteries- Battery power is so important when camping. Especially when camping without electrical hook-ups. LED light bulbs save as much as 15% battery power than incandescent bulbs. Keep in mind that there may be some voltage fluctuations when using LEDs with the 12 volt system in an RV or trailer. Being sure to purchase LED lights specifically for RVs, which come with a voltage regulator, will keep this from happening.
• Safety First- If you have ever accidently bumped up against an incandescent light, you may have noticed the heat that they produce. This is not safe and should be monitored often. Too much heat can lead to the lens on your lights melting and possibly cause more damage if not maintained. LEDs do not emit the same heat and stay cool to the touch. Also, LEDs do not contain mercury like fluorescent lights do. Overall, the LEDs prove to be safer than any other bulb on the market.
• Money, money, money, money- LED bulbs may be slightly expensive, but they last longer than any other bulb. Incandescent bulbs last about two thousand hours, while LED bulbs last 60,000 hours. The initial cost of the LED bulbs may leave you a little shell shocked. However, considering the lifespan of the LED bulbs it is well worth the original investment.
• Let There Be Light- Unlike other bulbs, LED lights work right away. LEDs do not take the time that fluorescent lights can take to warm up and reach full brightness. LEDs are full powered the moment they are turned on. They also tend to be the brightest of any other bulb available.
• It’s a Rough Road Ahead- The roads you travel can be tough at times and it is best to have durability in your coach. LED bulbs have proven to withstand the ups and downs of travel. They are the most durable lights on the market and will keep you safely illuminated throughout your journey.
All in all, the benefits of LED bulbs are not just the obvious ones. There are so many reasons to use them for the environment alone, but as the RV owner, there are many many more. Lighting your journey to your own tastes and lighting preferences can make your trip more enjoyable. Saving yourself some time and money by not having to replace bulbs continuously not only allows you more “fun times” but gives you some extra cash in your pocket to spend on your trip. Happy trails and may your lights always shine brightly.

Well, unfortunately, like many "greenie" ideas. Led lights are not just a little more expensive. I purchased one in Quartzsite AZ at the big tent show. It was $25. I got a quote last week to replace it. They wanted $30. Now that is not just a little more expensive, it is huge. And, it did not last 60,000 hours I am pretty sure, although I did not monitor the usage. How many of these lights have you owned Tammy? Or did you just read what the manufacture put on the label? And what are the prices at your place of business for one of these led lights?
