If you’ve ever had a taste of a steady traveling lifestyle, there is no turning back. The joy and excitement that accompanies certain adventure is comparable to a drug, in the best kind of way. You simply cannot travel once and then never decide to do it again. Well, I suppose some people out there may feel this way and want to always stay close to home. But if you’re reading this blog on the RVingUSA.com website, there is a pretty decent chance that your wanderlust has already been fueled far beyond recovery. I personally love to travel in many forms and fashions but one of my absolute favorite ways to roam the world is behind the wheel of an RV.
If you are partial to the same sentiment and find yourself daydreaming and scheming about any and all ways you can take off on your next your trip, this post is going to highlight a unique and growing lifestyle choice that might be able to help you facilitate these future RV wanderings. The subject we are about to dive into is Workamping. In a nutshell, this term describes itself in a fairly straightforward manner, you work while you camp. You camp while you work. How is this even possible and how can it help you RV more often? Let’s take a look.
The Basics of Workamping
The basics of Workamping are simple. You figure out a way to make money while you travel and camp, and this allows you to travel and camp as much as you can or want to. Many RVers have had to work a steady job for decades before they were able to retire and lead a more nomadic lifestyle and this is still a common both people follow at RV parks and campgrounds across the country. But there are a growing number of people who are able to take their life on the road far before retirement age. The appeal of the RV lifestyle is obvious for anyone who has ever lived it, and the ability to adopt this lifestyle as an actual long-term way of life is becoming possible due to a variety of reasons.
The basic necessities needed to get started with Workamping are an RV and an income source. This website is full of sources that can lead you in the direction of all-things-RV-related. If you need to know how to get your hands on an RV or the basics of RV ownership, check out some of the resources on other posts on RVingUSA. The other basic element to Workamping – an income source – can be a little more difficult to navigate at first, so let’s take a look at that next.
Remote Income
We live in a wonderous age full of technological development and modern niceties that make our ability to stay connected to the world around us easier than ever before. One amazing benefit to our current era is the ability to earn an income from just about anywhere. I’m sure you have heard of ‘working from home’ or ‘working remotely’ thrown around your current workplace or have had a friend or acquaintance who has adopted or attempted the task. Even if you don’t know the first thing about how to earn this sort of remote income, all you need to know at first is that it is indeed possible and yes, you can start to earn money from the comfort of you RV.
Workamping is remote working for RVers and others who love to travel and camp. To achieve this ultimate goal of making money while on the road, you can go about it a couple of different ways. The first way to go about it is to take your current occupation on the road. I know this might not sound as romantic as you first might have been thinking when I mentioned Workamping, but it is a good starting point for many people. More and more professions are open to the idea of letting their employees work remotely at least some of the time and depending on what line of work you are in, you might be able to figure out to do things remote all of the time. Start by asking your employer if they allow or are open to remote working. If they say no, you may have to consider another option if you want to Workamp. If they say yes, then congratulations, you have just figured out a way to make your first line of remote income.
The other route to go to start earning a remote income is to start a business or service of your own. This can take some time to get off of the ground, but it is a route than many people do to further their Workamping lifestyle. An initial idea is to leverage some of the skills you might already have into a service you can provide for others. This might look like you providing consulting services to businesses similar to the industry you have previously worked in. You could also start something brand new that you can do on the road. Maybe you start a YouTube channel of all of your RV travels and earn affiliate income or perhaps you make some sort of craft from your RV that you can then make a website for and ship out to customers.
Another popular route that can be very lucrative is a sales position with a company that allows you to travel such as Southeast Publications. Marketing Consultants that work for this company assist campgrounds by helping to create free Guest Guides which are provided to the campers and direct them to local services. You can earn money and travel where you want with Southeast Publications, the Industry Leader in providing Guest Guides, Site Maps & Directories for Travel, Recreational and Hospitality Industries. Receive a (2) two-week complimentary site for the purpose of selling advertising to the local community to appear in the Guest Guides as well as a 65% commission of all monies collected above print cost. The Guest Guides are provided at no cost to the establishment and is fully paid by advertising from local businesses in the community. You get the reward of providing a much-needed service to the campgrounds for free, as well as helping passing RVers connect with the local businesses and services that they need in the area. This can be a very lucrative position as you return each year to the same campgrounds and the publication and your profits grow.
Regardless of which route you focus on to start your Workamping dreams, you need to have steady access to reliable internet in most cases. Luckily, most modern RV parks have excellent WiFi available and there are a lot of campground scattered across the country and the world that will have reliable access as well. It can be hard to stay motivated and on top of business while you are out on the road but if you have some dedication and patience, you can start to build that Workamping lifestyle that is sure to facilitate plenty of fun down the road!
